Taylor T5 Custom Koa
From the Manufacturer:
The Taylor T5 Custom Guitar with Koa Top is the T5 with a stunning figured top, intricate abalone fretboard inlays, and gold hardware.
A resonant, fully hollow thinline body is the backbone of the T5. Its comfort and playability is unquestionable, with the performance freedom of a solid-body and the feel and sound of a beloved Taylor acoustic. Whether played through an electric or acoustic amp, it delivers a fantastic range of pure tones from smooth, strumming acoustic to crunchy electric chords.
Electronics include a unique 5-way pickup system composed of a magnetic acoustic humbucker, magnetic electric humbucker, and a single Dynamic Body Sensor soundboard pickup, as well as a preamp system for mixing up the exact tone you need. Full binding, bone nut and saddle, stylized f-holes, a mahogany neck, sapele body, and an ebony fretboard and headstock overlay are standard.
Comment:
The Taylor T5 C2 is a sweet blend of acoustic and electric sounds. It is fun to play and the action on it is quite easy. I use phosphor / bronze acoustic strings instead of the electric ones the T5 is normally setup for. This required replacing the saddle with an acoustic version from Taylor. My guitar also has the neck pickup through the top. Standard C2 models have the neck pickup under the top.
The Koa top is highly figured and is quite lovely.
Warning... Here comes a Rob Rant!
Like the Strat, theT5 has active pickups. My pet peave is having to install a battery into a guitar. At least Taylor made it easier than Fender by providing a battery compartment with an accessible cover. On the Strat, you have to remove a cover with screws to get to the battery and tremelo springs.
