Gibson Les Paul Supreme

Gibson Les Paul Supreme

From the Manufacturer:
Carved AAAA flamed maple top and back in Translucent black finish over a chambered mahogany body
1950s style rounded mahogany neck with ebony fingerboard and pearl inlays
Two Alnico magnet humbuckers - 490R (neck) and 498T (bridge)
The best of both worlds: new and vintage!

In 1958, the Les Paul went from a simple gold-finished, painted top to a cherry sunburst finish over a carved maple two-piece top. The majority of the tops were actually pretty plain, while others - the ones collectors now pay astronomically high prices for - could be found with beautifully figured, two-piece flamed maple tops. Actually, it was the carved top that set the Les Paul apart from the "competition." That continued through the instrument's long and storied history. Now the Les Paul Supreme takes it to the extreme with a carved AAAA maple top and back over a chambered mahogany body. The appointments combine both new and vintage flavors for a guitar that can play in any style from country to metal and anything in between. This one is finished in Translucent black, the most classic of all Les Paul colors.

Comment:
This guitar is gorgeous! AAAA flamed maple top and back with translucent black finish. This guitar is really stunning. The images do not do it justice.

Warning... Here comes a Rob Rant!

However, It was not setup very well from the factory. The nut is a little too low and the bottom strings buzz on the 1st fret when played open. The strings also stick really bad when tuning. I've temprarily installed heavier gauge strings and bumped up the bridge height a little. It still buzzes but not as bad. it is really hard to play though.

I need to get it into a luthier and have a proper setup done. I fear they will have to replace the nut. i am not sure if they can shim the nut on a Gibson. I read somewhere Gibson les Pauls have the nut glued in with strong adhesive and may have to be cut out. We will see. As it is this is the prettiest guitar I own but it is my least favorite to play.
